Paredes will be given next year, to Hoyer, Paredes was a beautiful bikini clad woman at the time of the trade, he had wanted Paredes for a long time. He won't cut bait after a poor July/Aug/early Sept.

Matt Shaw and Cam Smith are itching to bump Paredes off the team. We had to see what Morel could/couldn't do full time at 3B. There were concerns about Chapman's wrist before the season and I think there was the Boras factor as well. I'm not sure Paredes will be with the team to start 2025. He could very well be traded in the offseason.
There's just a lot of question with Paredes offensively. He had a great season last year. But that's really it. He's still young, so maybe there's reason to be optimistic. But I'm not sure if he should have looked as some type of offensive savior when he was traded for.
I’ve read this opinion that Paredes is tradeable in the offseason a few times now and I’m not seeing it. It would be very Cubs-like though to give up a cheap controlled young slugger and a promising young closer for a red flag third baseman to only then flip him for pennies on the dollar the very next offseason. Which I would agree with by the way! Just own your mistake, clear the roster spot, and move forward. But there are two problems with that: 1) the key part of owning your mistake is to learn from it and I have zero faith that the front office won’t just continue acquiring middling talent over proven and stable producers and 2) I also have zero faith in this front office to see that, considering the state of the roster, clearing a roster spot is enough of a win to justify a move. After all, we just observed a trade deadline where we didn’t flip a single player with the intention of roster flexibility There’s always a lot of talk about trading Happ or Suzuki to which I cite their no trade protections as reasons to be skeptical. Paredes doesn’t have that, I just don’t see why anyone would even want the guy. He, like Bellinger, warranted nothing but skepticism coming off his only good and productive season in 2023. Now he’s on an almost three month bender that supports all that skepticism. Why would anyone want to trade for him? My guess is he’ll eventually be a DFA candidate if/when someone from the minors forces him out.

I'm holding out hope that Hoyer will be fired at the end of the season. But that's probably wishful thinking.
You're probably right, Hoyer will refuse to admit the mistake and move Paredes. And it would be pennies on the dollar.
Probably why you won't see Shaw up this year. Can't have him come up and show anything at the major league level, would make you look even worse for keeping Paredes.

Chapman finished with a 121 wRC+ and a 5.4 fWAR. That ranks 6th in MLB in wRC+ amongst 3B and 2nd in fWAR. Just such a good fit for a team needing a 3B and no this is not hindsight.
Paredes did finish 117 wRC+ and 3.4 fWAR, unfortunately 87 wRC+ and 0.4 fWAR for the Cubs just won't cut it. If they can get 120 and 4.0 for a full season from Paredes it will solidify the position IMO

According to zips projections they should be similar in terms of wrc+ and war next season, even a smidge towards Parades' favor, however now that Chapman had such a nice year I wouldn't be surprised to see him beat expectations again. Especially expectations likely measured prior to this years work.
Paredes has flashes of nice defense, but he's no Matt-Chap. Paredes DRS was -2 and Chapman's was +17 this season.

We'll have to see a full year of Paredes at 3B and I'm sure Jed's giving it to him. That bat can maybe get there, but I just hate the reliance on pulling the ball. Chapman may lack Paredes' power, but he's also a 35-40 doubles guy. We'll see, if having Paredes means more money spent on a power bat then it will be fine I think.
