As far as I'm concern I hope Sosa never set foot in Wrigley Field again.

Cubs just said there is no talks going on between Sosa and the Cubs. Yeah but Sammy said he's open to talking so ....... we seem to hear this every couple years and then nothing comes of it. Personally , even though I hate what he did , my issue isn't the cheating since that was widespread among many star players so I have no ill feelings other than disappointment about that , he doesn't need to apologize about that , my issue is he quit on his team and them tried lying about it . But I hate that the Cubs (Ricketts) seems to want an apology from him and has erased him from Cubs history which is wrong. He was the only reason to watch the Cubs for many years and as big of a self centered ego maniac he became , he was fun to watch hit , steroids or not. And I made a shitload of money selling his rookie cards which I stocked up on the day he was traded to the Cubs.

So many roiders out there that still get love from their teams - bonds, mcguire, etc. But our own Sammy Sosa gets blackballed. Time for Sammy to get the love back that he put into the team. There were issues, obviously, but life goes on and I think the majority (or atleast a large quantity) of Cubs fans would love to see him back. Would take minimal effort from the Cubs org. Let him throw a first pitch and see how it goes.
My favorite ex-Cub Big Z was finally welcomed back and I'm glad we made that happen. He was nervous about how he would be welcomed back to Wrigley, and it turned out they still love him and were thrilled to see him at the stadium. Atleast I made sure a lot of people gave him a big welcome in the section I was in. I was jumping up and down and hollering and we caught glances - he went from nervous to relaxed and happy after his warm reception.

Thanks to Sammy, 1998 is a year I’ll never forget. The battle between him and McGwire made baseball fun again. And the Cubs even managed to sneak into the post season.
Like someone mentioned, Sammy was the main and sometimes only reason to watch the Cubs….like for a 10-year period. Remember his performance in the one homerun derby (I think in Atlanta)… how many bombs over 500 feet?
As far as steroids, they may add a little distance, but the hitter still needs hand/eye coordination and other skills to crush the ball and steroids have no effect on that. A roidless Sammy would not have hit 600 homeruns but still plenty.
Despite his apparent flaws, I really enjoyed the Sosa-era.

While it's obvious to have been a big help, you're totally right imo that the coordination and skill has to be there and is the main driver in a batters production.
Would you rather have an opponent use roids or know what pitch is coming? I'd take the roided out guy over the Astro. And the Astros players werent punished and are about over even having to hear about it. Alex "The Ring-Leader" Cora got a nice job with the Red Sox, and his name has come up for a potential manager of the year if his team manages to reach the playoffs this year.
It's not fair at all for certain guys to be shamed while others have almost no consequence, short or long term, for their actions. Sammy has been dealing with this crap for ages now.
Unpopular opinion: The organization doesn't want him back because of the white-washing thing Sammy has done to his skin over the years - NOT due to other events.

<<It's not fair at all for certain guys to be shamed while others have almost no consequence, short or long term, for their actions. Those are the one who should be shamed , but I guess since stealing signs has been part of the game forever the old school way it's not looked upon as being as bad I guess. I don't think Sammy turning white has anything to do with it

Some great points for sure. I agree knowing what pitch is coming is a bigger advantage than being on steroids. But that’s the current world we live in, where for whatever reason, some people face consequences for their actions, while others get away scott-free. As far as steroids, why have some players been banished from base ball for steroid use while others still made the HOF. I remember Jeff Bagwell muscled up in a hurry. No amount of chicken & rice and protein shakes are going to make you gain 30 lbs of muscle in a short period of time. Yet he’s still in the HOF. I wonder about Big Papi also.

Because a lot of the writers who vote are assholes and have personal vendetta's and or their own reasoning. If a guy tested positive or was in the Mitchell report they usually get the blackball , if it was just suspicion because they got bigger and better it's more open ended and it's unfair really but I kind of feel the same way , when it comes to some players like Bonds and Clemens they get even harsher treatement because they were already HOF locks when the point that they started to use seems to have occured because you can almost pin point it with them. It's like why did a great have to cheat to get greater and I can't explain why I feel the same way , but I do. I seem to be more irritated about those guys than the others. When it comes to guys like Bagwell etc , they were never mentioned much in rumors and never tested positive , but it's kind of obvious they did use.

My hunch is that the Ricketts bought the team, didn't really care that much but didn't want to amplify bad publicity, and when there was never a huge outcry from fans to bring him back, and because he seemed kinda weird by bleaching his skin and that was making headlines, the Ricketts just decided to avoid a return from Sammy.

Oh, and I've heard about some former players having special gatorade during games (keep an eye out on the broadcasts for drinks not looking like what the original container should be carrying) and pitchers using sunscreen mixture in their beards for stickyness (prior to the ban). Players include a former closer and a former starter/coach.

Nah , don't think the weird skin thing matters at all. I think Ricketts is actually on record about wanting an admission and apology for using steroids which I thought was kind of odd. I thought the issue was more about Sosa walking out on the team and skipping the last game to dodge the media and then trying to lie about it , but I'm pretty sure it's just 100% the steroid thing and him wanting Sammy to apolgize to the Cubs and their fans. I could be wrong, but that's what I seem to remember, maybe somebody else remembers that as well ?

Odds on Sammy making an appearance in the next 5 years?
At some point everyone sees how big of a deal he was and feel nostalgic about it to some degree and he comes back. If he's recently done a signing event in Chicago, it's just a matter of time. Ya know, when you take the architectural boat tour in chicago they like to point out which building sammy sosa lived in. He's still a part of Chicago and I hope he returns soon.

I'm still puzzled why they did nothing to Molina when he had a baseball stuck to his chest protector .
