Ed Howard still hot , seems like he figured out how to hit 2 for 3 and has his average up to .271 , he's hitting .338 in 19 June games And he got off to a slower start in June. Howard - Last 15 Games
21-54 (.389) / .462 / .463 / .925
When I saw South Bend, 2 yrs ago, 3 trunks stood out (viewed from behind the Batter's Box). Mervis, Canario.... & Howard. and in those last 15 he had 7 multiple hit games , and currently 3 of his last 4

Ballesteros 0-3, 2 BB in the 2 hole. .361 AVG .966 OPS 20TB in 9 games Just think of what he could do, if he trained like a Major Leaguer vs a Beer Leaguer. "You can't pull fat"

I’m thinking Cubs are comfortable with Busch at first unless the wheels completely fall off the wagon making Mervis expendable and he might be an enticing trade piece as part of a package. Of course nobody knows which direction Jed will go at the deadline buy, sell, or nothing at all.

Even if the wheels fall off the wagon with Busch they still probably won't give Mervis a legit chance . He should have been dealt when they traded for Busch. It was pretty clear they never really have been very high on him going back to all of us being puzzled why he was not added to the 40 man and called up during his breakout season when they used the 40 man roster crunch and fear of guys being plucked in the rule 5 as an excuse. I guess we ( I know I did) just became too excited over the numbers he was putting up while scouts and I guess the Cubs themselves still had doubts.

Stole this from the BN comments.
Canario has a 63 percent contact rate. That rate would be the lowest in MLB.
Contact rate percentage would only go down when facing MLB pitching.
Canario essentially is Wisdom with a far prettier swing but he is outclassed in the hair department by Wisdom.

I think you’re right about him not getting another chance but I can’t help but wish he had gotten a legitimate shot just so we would know one way or the other. The fact he didn’t get a real shot here probably doesn’t help trade value either but maybe some teams will think they see something the Cubs don’t

He is deathly afraid of strikeouts.
I'm not saying that strikeouts are a great thing. But... you've got to have some power. And with power you get strikeouts. You definitely can't have a 1-9 of high strikeout players. But if 2 or 3 high strikeout players also means you're getting 30 to 40 homeruns that's just something you've got to live with.
Somebody posted a while back that given Bellinger's lack of power this year, he might make sense as a leadoff hitter. That's the problem with this lineup. EVERYONE can be a leadoff hitter. Tauchman, Happ, Hoerner, Bellinger, Suzuki (PCA would also potentially be a leadoff type hitter, he's not going to be a middle of the order bat) - they would all slot in nicely as a leadoff hitter. That's too many potential leadoff hitters in your lineup. You're not going to score runs that way, and in fact, the Cubs aren't scoring runs.
You've got to trim some of that. Yes, you're going to introduce more strikeouts, but you're also going to potentially introduce more runs scoring when those strikeout-prone hitters hit the ball very far.

OPS - 2024 OPS - 2023Canario .815 (#1 on Team) Canario .941 (#1 on Team) Wisdom .673 Wisdom .789 (Happ .791) Pretty unreal that Canario can put up those numbers with a 45% KRate. His 2024 MiLB KRate is 29.9%

Matt Shaw Owen Caissie and Moises Ballesteros named to minor league futures game .
Ballesteros not on the game roster , but he is in for the skills competition something new they are doing where players have to hit the ball to certain target areas marked on the field .

Brennen Davis on the IL with a back fracture, they said he will miss significant amount of time and have no timeline for his return.
3rd straight year his back cost him the season, does not sound like his back is going to allow him to have a MLB career.
