Ohtani is not expected to sign at the winter Meetings as he still meeting with a team that is schedule after the meetings are done. sigh... The Winter Meetings could go ice cold with this news. Well there are like 4-5 teams in on him and 24-25 not , so not everything is hinging on him .

Meaning more the Cubs news might go ice cold but a good chunk of the market is also waiting for Ohtani to come off the board too. There will be some moves, but major ones could be put on hold until Ohtani signs.

Jed Hoyer is not at the Winter Meetings
Ross Adkins (Blue Jays) said he will not be at the winter meetings due to a "Scheduling Conflict"
Freidman (Dodgers) also not at the Winter meetings.
Ohtani is making them dance. lol

Need to keep all the life lines open.

Watching MLB Network last night they painted a far different picture than we as a board seem to have. LA the large favorite for Ohtani, Atlanta seemingly now ahead of the Cubs. Cubs simply an afterthought it would seem. Even Bruce Levine and Jesse Rogers have talked or tweeted with what sounded like somewhat tempered expectations. I hope Jed and Carter can pull off a stunner but my optimism is beginning to fade.

I lost MLB Network when I dropped Dish in favor of streaming on YouTubeTV so I don't get to watch that anymore & it is really nice during the winter meetings. Hopefully the Ohtani sweepstakes are being kept very quiet by his camp & the teams interested & if that is the case then these talking heads might not have the correct take on it. Also they could do worse than to miss out on Ohtani & sign Yamamoto in my opinion which would also allow for another 25 mil. per year to go to another very good player. We'll see soon enough (but not for me)..

All speculation. Where did all the reports come from originally on the Cubs interest in Ohtani? I don’t recall Jed nor Carter ever saying anything. Here we are now people getting hyped about the Braves. Why? AA has been dead silent in Atlanta as always.
We’ll see but just like we’ve all been doing since the Counsell hiring, we’re all grasping at straws.

There was early speculation about the Braves and the low key type atmosphere of the south and Atlanta maybe being something he's be into and then I heard nothing until recently. My thing now is if he really likes the SoCal area and atmosphere then what's he waiting for ? It's not like with 600 million you have to prolong things to try to squeeze out every penny you can waiting for others to bid and use as leverage to milk more out of the Dodgers.

We’ll see but just like we’ve all been doing since the Counsell hiring, we’re all grasping at straws. The MLB Network guys usually have their finger on the pulse better than most, but anything can happen. But it just felt like a broadcast with a big groundswell for Atlanta. Perhaps they're all getting fooled by the same "rile up the market" reports. We all also know they have tons of airtime to fill which gets boring when being so repetitive, so perhaps there's a little bit of the variety angle there. Manufacture a bit of drama for the ratings perhaps. But coming out of that conversation it was LA(D), LA(A), and Atlanta being the top 3, and the Cubs just kinda around. That rhetoric matches somewhat with what I've heard from Cubs beat guys recently. They're all in on him, but I've yet to hear he's all in on Chicago.

Could have been a lot worse for the Cubs. I don't think these guys had/have much of a future, really. Looks like the Yankees and Red Sox took a hit to their system, just looking at sheer numbers. Yankees - 3 in major league phase and 4 in minor. Sox 2 in major and 7 in minor.

The annual event that people talk about throughout the year due to "roster crunch" and very rarely nothing of consequence happens.
Soon, similar discussions will be held about next year's crunch.
