This reminds me very much of the situation with Madden. Renteria probably would have had another year, if Madden isn’t available. Same with Ross and Counsell

From Brewers reddit, lol "you were supposed to destroy the sith...not join them!" "we'll never forget you, Greg" "Could have gone virtually anywhere but chose a bitter division rival that didn’t even have a vacancy. I wish him absolutely no success."
And it goes on and on

Hoyer released a statement making it official:
"Today we made the difficult decision to dismiss David Ross as our Major League Manager. Oh behalf of the Cubs organization, we express our deep gratitude for David's contributions to our club, both on and off the field. First as a player and then as a manager, David continually showcased his ability to lead. David's legacy will be felt in Chicago for generations and his impact to our organization will stack up with the legends that came before him. Going forward, our Major League team will be managed by Craig Counsell. We look forward to welcoming Craig at Wrigley Field early next week."

After watching the Yogi Berra documentary, I just hope we handled Rossys firing properly.
Also, I'm gonna miss the isht out of Ross.

Cubs jumped on the Counsell train immediately on 11/1. Counsell was here in Chicago last week meeting the front office. Deal was pretty much struck immediately, announced today.

After the team’s collapse, he should have been fired regardless if Counsel was available or not.
This is legitimately been the best move Hoyer could have made to show the players and fans the organization is serious.

Soooooo, there's a small contingent on Twitter wondering about the hiring process, specifically minority candidate interviews. The question was, did the Cubs discover a loop hole in the interview rule by technically not having an opening with Rossy still manager.
I don't know how much traction this will get, but it's out there. Maybe it's nothing, I don't know. Maybe nobody will care.

Since this exact thing happened with Renteria and Maddon back in 2014.

How on earth this was ever kept quiet is beyond amazing to me but I am 100% excited for the hire. I do feel bad for Rossy but business is business. I had no reservations that they were going to go for it hard next year but this ought to be the wake-up call to everyone in baseball that thought otherwise.

this is like hiring Maddon when we thought Rick Renteria was gonna be manager Brings a new definition to being Rick Rolled.
Rossy just got Rick (Renteria) Rolled.

"Plot twist- Counsell is a true Brewer, steals the Cubs money and manages the Cubs into the ground over the next few years." It's conspiracy theory tike over there now.
