Experts predict Wicks to a ceiling of a 3 and a floor of a 5. Any of that would be cool with me. A contending team pays 8 to 15 milli for a back end starter. Wicks achieving that would save tons of tax space making him well worth the draft pick. But Wicks does have the intangibles to achieve higher than his floor. If you followed him in the minors he would have numerous starts with 5 innings 1run. But on occasions where he doesnt have his changeup he struggles. Everyone of his his pitches plays off his changeup and command. If he doesnt have that then he gets lit up. That is why I feel he will never be a TOR but a very very valuable piece to the rotation.

Agree , he probably won't be a TOR , but he seems to have that Lester bulldog mentality in him so he should keep his team in most games. I think he'll be a solid 3-4 type and that's fine , they all can't be aces to be valuable to a team.

I don't get Perlaza having to go to Korea. His numbers in the minors have been incredible for his age. And as a switch hitter, I'm stunned he doesn't get a deal from somebody.

He'd been hitting at the top of the iCubs lineup for basically the whole year: .389 OBP / .534 SLG, last 90 days .395 OBP / .446 SLG
Scary stat red flag is: 138 PA 15BB/39K .203/.290/.407 = .696 OPS vs. younger pitchers- 405 PA 61BB/80K .314/.422/.580 = 1.00 OPS vs. older pitchers--

I don't think it's a case of "having to go" He's getting paid a guaranteed 800K with 600 K contract and another 200 K signing bonus and another 200 K in incentives to possibly bank 1 million . Major league minimum which is what he'd get if he made a major league roster is 750K or it's only 45.8 K if he's still in the minors . So he probably wayed possibly making 45.8 K or being guaranteed 800K , that's a huge raise in little time without having to go through yearly small raises if he's a guy on the bubble getting called up and sent down by major league teams. So he's guaranteed 50K more and going to another league has often been a springboard/ showcase to players like him who should go over and put up big numbers and end up back here in a year or two or three and get a decent contract.

It actually happens pretty often , we just don't hear about a lot of the moves unless it was a guy that had some success or already played in the majors that we know , and a lot of the foreign league teams have roster limits on players coming from outside their country. Not sure if it's still the case, but I know the Japanese league used to have a limit of 2.

Mervis has crushed in the minors 2 seasons in a row now... Wish I could add a mini-poll for if we're going to trade him or play him next year.
