Kevin Alcantara has looked very good in spring training. He was suppose to start the season in South Bend High A any chance he skips right to AA? If I remember right Bryant and Schwarber both skipped low A. Most likely he will be at South Bend for half season and be at Tennessee by Mid June.
Also what happen to Cole Roederer?

If I remember right Bryant and Schwarber both skipped low A. Most likely he will be at South Bend for half season and be at Tennessee by Mid June. Also what happen to Cole Roederer? Schwarber was assigned to Boise (Short Season) in June, 2014 & hit 4 HR's in 5 games. He was immediately promoted to Kane County (Low A) & OPS'd 1.050 in 23 games there. Promoted to (High A) Daytona in July, for the final 44 games of the Season. Schwarber - Tennessee in 2015, with a promotion to the Chicago Cubs in June. Optioned to Iowa, a week later. Recalled in July. Playoffs in September. Cub Rookies that year: Bryant, Soler, Schwarber, Russell & Edwards. Bryant was signed in July, 2013. Played a couple of games in Arizona and promoted to Boise. (Skipped Low A - Kane County) Promoted to (High A) Daytona in August and later, played in the AFL. Bryant OPS'd over 1.000 at both Boise and Daytona. Bryant - NRI & Ext ST in 2014. Opened 2014 in Tennessee (age 22). Assigned to Iowa in June. OPS'd over 1.000 at both, Tennessee & Iowa. Basically, Bryant was in High A, 2 months after he was drafted & a month after he was signed (21 yrs old). Alcantara is 20 yrs old (21 in July) Roederer played Winter Ball in Australia where he hit .219 He is currently on the Smokies' Roster. (02/26/23) OF Cole Roederer roster status changed - Assigned to the Chicago Cubs. Probably in Minor League Camp.

Alcantara Probably could start in AA and hold his own, he has been that impressive, but with PCA, Nwogu, Caissie and Pinango already slated in the OF it is pretty much a sure thing Alcantara starts in South Bend but I have no doubts he will not be in South Bend for long either. I also have no idea where Cole Roederer went, he played in Australia this winter and no sign of injury or anything like that. I bet he is just getting a late start due to that.

I just read that & man I hope he continues to progress because he just might turn out to be the best prospect we have & that is really saying something with the likes of PCA, etc. in the system.. Go young Cubs!!

No surprises:
Kevin Alcantara - will start the season in South Bend as he was just optioned and assigned to minor league camp today.
Miguel Amaya - will start the season in AA Tennessee, should be making his spring training debut any time now.
PCA- Assigned to minor league camp, no word at what level but it is obvious he will start the season in Tennessee.
Canario - Will not be placed on the 60 Day IL because that means they would have to pay him a MLB salary, so he was optioned to AAA and will be placed on the minor league IL
Brennan Davis - Optioned to AAA and assigned to minor league camp
Correa and Leeper - assigned to minor league camp.

South Bend opens up in the Quad Cities (Home of the State Finalist, Moline Maroons). Friday, Saturday & Sunday. Apirl 7th-9th Sunday is a day game.
Wow! That's less than 4 weeks away. South Bend will feature several Myrtle Beach's 1st Half Champions, perhaps Howard & Franklin making comebacks and maybe a couple drafted Pitchers.
Or in other words... Loaded. Between them and Tennessee and then, Iowa? This is going to be something! Get out there, QC's! Don't miss your South Bend Cubs.

Excerpt from article on Yahoo Sports: "Angels left-hander Patrick Sandoval threw three one-run, two-hit innings, and Chicago Cubs right-hander Javier Assad threw three scoreless, one-hit innings to help Mexico improve to 1-1 in Pool C. Team USA fell to 1-1, making its path to the WBC quarterfinals in Miami a little more treacherous."Sad that USA lost but awesome how Assad pitched to get it done..

Apparently Assad was also lighting up the radar gun, sitting 95-97 on the fastball and touched 92 on the cutter. Sorry everyone I really messed up. I posted in 2022 minor league thread instead of the 2023 thread. I moved all the March 8th posts and after to this thread. Sorry for the confusion.

that is one hell of a bullpen. I am really excited to see Sanders now fully converted to the bullpen and what he can do with a define role going forward, his stuff is off the charts.
