Pitchers it looks like Chatwood was doing the best by far - right up until his last 4 outings where he has walked 10 guys in his last 4.1 innings & given up 6 Earned runs (just has 7 all year).
Tyler Chatwood: 0.6 WAR so far - 20.1 Innings pitched - 14 BB's - 23 K's - 11 Hits - 3.10 ERA (But was 0.53 before his last 4 outings..)
Jose Quintana: -0.6 WAR so far - 33.2 Innings pitched - 26 BB's - 50 K's - 39 Hits - 7.22 ERA (now on 10 day I.L.)
Jon Lester: -0.2 WAR so far - 29.1 Innings pitched - 10 BB's - 22 K's - 33 Hits - 4.91 ERA
Hitters is really only Schwarbs and he is doing pretty well with 0.5 WAR so far - hitting .230 / .319 OBP / .447 SLG & .776 OPS with 9 HR's - 23 RBI's in 161 AB's.

That’s odd stats from Quintana.....50 strikeouts in 33.2 innings pitched, which is fantastic, yet a 7.22 ERA.

He's giving up 1-1/3 hits per inning & walking a guy every 1-1/3 innings but yes that is a high K rate, just not good when he walks a guy every time he strikes out 2. As a Cub he NEVER had a walk rate even close to that high..

I stand by assessment that the Cubs should have traded Quintana after making the decision to re-sign/pick up the option on Cole Hamels. Cubs could have gotten a couple solid prospects in return and spent that 10.5 million on upgrades in other areas.
SMH, I remember being on my soap box demanding to trade Quinatana, Zobrist, Russell (DFA). What else was I beating on the table about? Signing Fucking DJ LeMahieu!
Quintana 10.5 million... Russell 3.4 million... LeMahieu 12 million
But you don't trade from a contending team they said. Then what do you do about a 5th starter they said.
Had the Cubs made those moves, they don't have a need for Descalso 2.5 million so they would, hypothetically, had an additional 4 million to improve the bullpen.

Very possibly on trading Q but with his 4 ERA & the 1.3 something WHIP I don't know what level of prospects we could have expected in return with the team having to pay a tick under 9 mil. for 2019 & the Cubs most likely felt with Hamels & Lester's age that having Q there & the fact that he just never misses starts (at that time) might be why they didn't. I am guessing they had numerous discussions about players in deals that they couldn't come to actual deals on but who knows. Regarding DJ, his deal with the Yankees kind of surprised everyone in baseball but he was coming off of one of his worst ever seasons in 2018 so that might be why. .276 Avg. & .321 OBP was really down for him at the time but yes, it would have been pretty wonderful to have him at that time but that was also when the Cubs were going to go over into the salary cap fines area. I'm still baffled that Russell is pretty much just done in baseball now because I really thought after we got him that we might have hit the jackpot. Oh well, not the first time I have been wrong..

Yes... I understand what YOUR concerns were at the time. This was MY opinion at the time and obviously, now that the smoke cleared, I was 100% correct.
What purpose did you post serve? Explaining why the Cubs didn't make the moves? No one really needs excuses as to why they didn't make moves, I stood on my soap box while you and everyone else made the same concerns to me and you were wrong. Moving right along.

If he could get his OBP up another 30 to 40 points & continues with his WAR numbers he is very likely to get paid this offseason with a nice multi year contract & I would love to see that - to an AL club so we don't have to face him that is..

Schwarber 15 home runs ..... IN JUNE and 24 on the season. Easily on pace for 50 by the years end. I really hope he keeps this up & inks a 5 year deal for 75 to 100 mil (but in the AL).. He's one of my favorites.

He's one of my favorites. Based on past performance, a team would be total suckers to offer him that kind of a deal for getting hot in his contract year. But at the same time, we all knew what his potential was for a while- the moon. So this hurts for Cubs fans, seeing him tap some of it, for another team. Never made sense how such a promising bat, praised for his patience, couldn't stop swinging at garbage pitches, while just looking at middle of the zone strikes
