Well... I voted 16-17, so now would be a great time to sweep the Brew Crew.

Didn't go down like I thought it would but was only one off. At least they gave us almost half a month before the actual June swoon went into effect.
The definite peak was the Rizzo/ Bill Murray game against the Cards and for that I am thankful. But it seems as though reality has set in and the miracle workers of early June couldn't carry the team the rest of the way. Bryant gave us some hope in May, but other than a few glimmers the core has not come close to putting up the fight that is needed from them. And unless the world shifts and they start performing up to potential, I don't see things improving.
If I were in charge (and I'm glad I'm not) I would be garage saling every veteran on the team and starting over to try to add new pieces of this team. Happ, Pedersen, Heyward, Baez, Bryant, Contreras, Arrietta, Bote and even Kimbrel, Hendricks and Davies would be on the block.

Then to fall back into the all or nothing again. Reminds me of an old tv show some on here may have been around long enough to remember, a show called to tell the truth where here we should ask will the real Cubs please stand up

Besides the Giants series, they held up well at first and thought maybe they would stand up and show (what I hoped?) they could do. That maybe the May Cubs weren't just a streak. But second half of the month they just started to drown and are still sinking. And no sign of attempting to even swim right now.
They may have an easier schedule from here on, but what does that mean? Even if they win against the easier ballclubs and narrow, or even somehow contend for 1st place again, they still haven't proven they can win on the road. That they didn't respond well to June is really disappointing. If they actually split a lot of those series (instead of losing 3 out of 4) and didn't get blown out by the Crew, then maybe I would have more confidence in them to be the team they need to be to actually be a player in October. But I just really don't right now.
