IT is impossible to say that you are wrong here because it is flat out against the rules & there is no "grey area" there. But, changing the rules mid season to something that MLB & everyone associated with them have known was being used for a very long time is an extreme thing to do. I think Glasnow simply told the truth & I can't blame him for that. He very well might have hurt himself by them taking away the "stuff", but it's hard to feel sorry for someone who is clearly cheating - even if 1/3 of the other pitchers out there are as well. The thing that will really hurt teams are the ones that signed these expensive pitchers that relied on that to be as good as they were. How would you like Cole's contract if he turns into a guy with a 99 mph fastball but his slider/curve are no longer anything special. That's a gift that could keep on giving for a long time.. But are they really "changing" the rules, or deciding to enforce them ? I just found it funny that we are in a situation where he is basically admitting to cheating and bitching that baseball is going to enforce a rule mid season. I mean what did he want MLB to say , eh , keep on using foriegn substances to grip a baseball even though they are against the rules for the rest of the season , but it's going to have to stop in 2022 ? That’s a really good point - but it really is one & the same if an entity doesn’t enforce laws or rules that are in place for years & then all of the sudden start.. Can you imagine the State police starting to pull people over for going 1 mph over the speed limit on some random Thursday? It wouldn’t go over too well.

They usually don't decide to change the ways they let the game be played mid season so I can understand players being upset about it. But the public complaints by players who are pretty much flat out saying they were openly breaking rules (even if not ever enforced) makes me laugh. I guess they have the mentality since it wasn't being enforced it's really not a rule then. But again baseball fails by deciding to do something NOW and it's ONLY because of the lack of offense and makes itself look bad because IF they actually cared about the rule , they would have done SOMETHING when the ball stuck to Molina's chest protecter a few years ago. I was baffled as to why NOTHING was even said about that then.

Actually I remember someone reporting that they inspected the chest protector and found nothing... just like I'm sure they inspect all the Cardinals players hats and find nothing.
I use chalk in the gym every day, and I'm constantly fucking with my hat... you know how many dirty chalk spots I have on my hat? NONE! But yet every reliever comes in from the pen with a filthy hat... in just one spot... weird.

The simple solution seems to be, make the ball easier to grip? Why would that be ? The entire issue is MLB trying to get more offense into the game with all these rule changes they have been comtemplating is it not? I mean they've even thought about moving the mound back which to me is ridiculous and a HUGE danger to a pitchers arm who's trained his entire life to throw and get his pitches to break from 60 feet 6 inches. So if the ball is easier to grip then you are right back to the higher spin rates and less offense where we are right now. It's not really about using substances. MLB is already working on making the ball easier to grip with hopes it will be ready for the 2022 season. Some company has a developed the Ball Mudder machine which will apply mud or any substance MLB wants to the balls.

I think MLB is on the right track with the mud machine and making the ball less slippery. There is a world of difference between being able to get a better grip on the ball and using a substance to make it sticky. Of course a sticky substance (spider tack) on the ball will increase spin rates! Player safety is a convenient excuse for pitchers who relied on spider tack to be successful.

They're also talking about adding a substance that would change the color of the ball if a banned substance is applied. It's an interesting read. For those who are interested just Google, Mudder Machine.

Brewers starting pitcher Freddy Peralta just had his glove confiscated for it being too light of a color.
Scherzer:
"I have absolutely zero on me. You can check whatever you want. Take all my clothes off if you want. I have absolutely nothing on me."

I think this over-reaction will die down. These strip-searches are not a good look for baseball. I'm waiting for a pitcher to pull a "Gaylord Perry". He had a reputation for doctoring the ball so he would purposely touch different body parts and his uniform to psych out his opponents and the umps.

Talk about being caught red handed! Nice try, Joe!

Mariners Hector Santiago is ejected from the game in MLB's first foreign-substance violation since the crackdown.

Since June 16th (when the MLB memo went out) MLB hitters are hitting
.243/.319/.409, 23.2 K%
Beginning of the year until June 15th
.238/.313/.398, 24.0 K%
So slight improvement but probably not enough to make any determinations. Especially as we get to summer where offense tends to pick up. Be interesting to watch this as the season goes on.

Bumping due to interesting update: a few players commented on the feel of the olympic baseballs (in a positive way). Hoping they used those an example of what to replicate

I really wish I could get these links to work without the redirect, and that the twitter postings (i'm assuming) will actually show up. They don't show on computer or phone.
