They are equating this to the biggest scandal since steroids. Yuck. I'm not going to say that any of the Cubs are doing it but it seems awfully suspicious when relievers come into the game and they have that one spot on their hat that is brown.
I think it's so common in baseball that pitching coaches are teaching pitchers how to doctor up balls, how to use things like stick um... I mean clearly Molina was using it on his chest protector.
I cannot who brought it up recently, but they said that baseball occasionally will check a pitcher but they never check other people who handle the ball... specifically the catcher or the first baseman, and they could easily put something in their gloves to scar the ball or have a spot where they have some sticky substance.
I also don't think this compares to the sign stealing scandal that baseball has attempted to sweep under the rug. I think everyone knows pitchers use something other than rosin to help with grip

"I'm not trying to claim ignorance but I haven't seen anything. And to be quite honest, I don't get involved in that stuff. Trevor Bauer is a grown man who is very intelligent. But as far as that, once it all kind of comes out in the wash on they're going to handle it, I have no concern that we will all follow protocols" - Dave Roberts
Did I miss something? Because this sounds like Roberts is basically admitting that Bauer is cheating and is trying to distance himself. I also love the willful ignorance Roberts is trying to claim here... "huh? What? Who me? I didn't see anything but to be honest I willfully look the other way and put my headphones in when Trevor, Clay and Walker are having conversations about spin rate"

Listening to 670 score driving home friday evening, they had a talking head on saying that MLB, trying to cut down on home runs, reduced the weight of the baseball a little bit. That and coupled with foreign substances is leading to more movement with higher spin rates. thus the ball is dancing nd moving more than ever. Strike outs up, offense down, again

Once again, MLB is way behind the times and the horse is already so far out of the barn, but I actually like that Manfred is tackling this head on instead of the decades long denial of steroids by the previous regime(s). For a long time MLB did enforce this when they could see the problem, see Michael Pineda and Will Smith. Once pitchers got more clever, largely in response to MLBs failed attempt to change the ball, they reacted much more quickly than in eras past and I have to give them kudos for fixing the mistake they caused.

Both MLB & MLBPA are spinning this to benefit their respective positions in the upcoming CBA talks. It looks like it will get uglier before common sense sets in.

www.si.com/mlb/2021/06/14/sticky-stuff-bubba-harkins-speaking-out-daily-coverArticle on the Angels clubhouse guy who got fired for supplying his own concoction. Interesting that one of the names mentioned is Tyler Chatwood, who contacted him in early 2018 shortly after joining the Cubs. If you can recall, one of the big points of interest the Cubs had in pursuing him was...high spin rate. Additionally, Jesse Rogers was on ESPN radio this morning and spoke briefly about this, and said that neither the Cubs nor White Sox were viewed as the problematic teams in the league in this regard. But he did hint that in his discussions with people that the Cubs bullpen would be more likely to have users than the rotation, which doesn't really shock me given their turnaround this season. I mentioned last week that Winkler seemed to go pretty specifically to his left forearm and then to the ball before pitching. I checked youtube for videos on him specifically and found one from Game 1 of the playoffs last season, and that was not part of his routine at that time, and somewhat ironically and unfortunately in that appearance drilled Starling Marte in the forearm.

Motte kept his stuff in his beard.

Both MLB & MLBPA are spinning this to benefit their respective positions in the upcoming CBA talks. It looks like it will get uglier before common sense sets in. This sounds stupid... so baseball is trying to inflate the hitting stats to help the free agent class?
But where there was a huge crop of free agent pitchers, they were also attempting to inflate the free agent class?
Hey stupid, it is known by every swinging dick in the room that baseball is trying to inflate offense to make the game more watchable. It has nothing to do with who is becoming free agents. Geez, no one said ball players were smart.
"Yeaher maaan it starts wit da covid vaccine and den der afer our jobs. Trump new da truf dat why day got rid of Trump man, dat what baseball do, eer one nos dats"
