Interesting that they are cracking down on this, basically trying to reduce doctored baseballs.

Interested to see how they will be monitoring this and what they'll do about most if not all pitchers using substances for grip.

Interesting that they are cracking down on this, basically trying to reduce doctored baseballs. Like they cracked down on steroids after years of turning blind eye. Not saying mlb knowingly allowed pitchers use stuff to doctor the ball. That's been around as long baseball been around. Be interesting see how some pitchers perform like a Garrett Cole.

Just like they warned teams about video usage. Just a statement and a BS cover for something they really don't want to police.

Kind of find it interesting that the team that was the pioneer of "spin rates" and changing pitchers careers with theirs all of a sudden improving , is the same team that banged on garbage cans.

I actually think they want to police this as they want more offense in the game. I don’t think anyone had an issue when pitchers used stuff for control but now what they are using is also really making them better and harder to hit. MLB only cares about making more offense unfortunately they don’t realize more offense doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a better game.

If "doctoring" the baseball gives pitchers a distinct advantage, then MLB needs to eliminate it. They can't control a pitcher's speed but if a substance not only gives a pitcher better control but also increases the movement on breaking pitches, then it needs to be removed from the game. It should come down to natural ability.

I don't disagree with you in that respect, they always want more offense. However, this spin rate thing is not a new issue, nor a new publicly known issue, it's several years running right now and this is just the first time they've shown a desire to address it. IMO it should have been nipped in the bud years ago.

Well, MLB couldn't do anything untill some time had passed since a pitched ball stuck on Yadi Molina's chest protector from all the pine tar. I mean other wise fans might think Molina and the Cards could've be cheating, and how silly is that?

And again , anybody but me feel it's no coincidence that the team who supposedly was the master mind of this "spin rate" technology was the Astros . I guess it would have been to much to nail them for cheating at the plate and on the mound so they had to ease back until that blew over. I hope now that there will be partial crowds that they dont let the Astros forget about it. They lucked out last year not having to deal with crowds.

wow wow wow! looks like Trevor Bauer is first pitcher to be investigated for suspicious baseballs. ironic he was calling out other pitchers and now he being investigated.
According to Rosenthal’s report and others have noted that balls were being taken out of play an issue was brought to the umpires’ attention during Bauer’s start today, so the umpires responded by removing balls that “had visible markings and were sticky.” Those balls have been sent to the league for further investigation. he could be suspended, among other financial consequences.

haha! No way Manfred Specifically targeted Bauer for this for all the shit Bauer talks about him. lol!
This is no more than a attempt to try to scare and a little bit of retaliation by Manfred, nothing much will come of this as the union will fight this and will open a massive can of worms that Manfred would prefer to keep shut.
Bauer is totally using, but most pitchers do and not really a secret and the hitters actually feel safer at the plate knowing they use some type of substance.

Bauer is similar to the random guy who always demands to know "who farted". The guy demanding to know is typically the guy who did it in the first place.

Heyman: MLB to crack down. This might (I say might) get ugly but you never know.

"There's concern some key pitching voices may push back." And say what? That they SHOULD be allowed to use a foreign substance?

Bauer basically admitted to it in not so many words.
I cannot remember if it was his first start or his second but baseball took several of his balls to take a better look at them. Bauer basically simply said, "if you try to punish me I'll sue you" because MLB didn't have a policy in place that was approved by the players union.
I'm not sure if MLB and the players union have agreed to the new policy or if MLB has found a loop hole but it will be interesting.
As for Bauer, he went from being a good but not great pitcher to a completely dominate one (similar to Cole) at the flip of a switch. No one can question Bauer's work ethic and training but it's kind of suspect.
With that said, I love Bauer... he plays the role of heel so well. I remember a few years ago Bauer having a twitter conversation with Alex Bregman and one of Bregman's fans decided to talk shit to Bauer... Bauer unleashed the flood gates on this woman

Bauer is doing it to prove a point. He said a few years ago that you cannot increase spin rate the way certain players (Verlander, Cole) did. The only way to do it, is by dockering the ball and everyone shrugged him off. Its the same as when Canseco said everyone was doing steroids and everyone blew it off

The only way to do it, is by dockering the ball and everyone shrugged him off. Its the same as when Canseco said everyone was doing steroids and everyone blew it off Ah Jose Canseco... I think he is the reason I no longer have favorite players! I was a huge Canseco fan growing up and he turned out to be a complete jack ass! I really have no issues with players using PED's during that time though.
Canseco, the jack ass, is actually one of the most important figures in all of baseball if you really think about it. Not many people have their finger print on the game the way Jose does and thanks to him, two of the greatest players my generation have ever seen put on a jersey are not in the Hall of Fame (which is a joke!).
I don't think Bauer is doing it to prove a point, I think he, like Bonds, decided that if you cannot beat them, join them. Per Canseco, who oddly is the only reliable source, Bonds was extremely frustrated by constantly losing out on the MVP by guys like Sosa, Caminiti other known or suspected steroid users. After a frustrating, injury shortened 1999, Barry picked Canseco's brain about steroids during a charity off-season home run derby and the rest was history. Bonds transformed himself into not one of the greatest players in his generation to THE greatest.
Got off track... back to Bauer, I think he simply is using the "if you can't beat them" mentality. Same way the Yankees, Brewers, Dodgers and every other technology based sign stealing team did. Baseball seemed to look the other way with steroids, sign stealing, doctoring baseballs, so why not? Millions of dollars are at stake!
