In his cubs bag, too? Damn. What a shame.
He was putting up fairly nice numbers in low level minor leagues

I wasn't sure how they were going to do the alternative site... but it has to end by May 1 when the SB Cubs are ready for their season. It won't be for the whole season like last year. Since each level of minors will have ST games in AZ, it will be interesting to see which players go to their regular ST and which ones will be sent to the alternative site.

Nice project to get in return. He was listed on MLB Pipeline as the Padres 25th best prospect and he was slotted in as the Cubs 30th best. Not sure how that works since the Padres system is ranked higher than the Cubs , so that is kind of a baffling ranking.

5 Taxi Squad players are with the Cubs in Pittsburgh and not available for South Bend. All MLB road teams are required to bring a Taxi Squad that can participate in pregame routines, but cannot dress or sit the bench. Ildemaro Vargas Rafael Ortega PJ Higgins (Squad must include a catcher) Brad Wieck Pedro Strop. Romine and Amaya stay with South Bend to play in the Alt Site Game. 4 of these guys are not on the 40 man and would have to be added if needed. www.bleachernation.com/cubs/2021/04/09/the-cubs-have-a-five-player-taxi-squad-with-them-in-pittsburgh/All eyes on Cory Abbott

The Cubs have released outfielder Eddy Julio Martinez.
Once rumored to be a $10M prospect out of Cuba and then, seeing his stock fall after more intensive scouting, Martinez signed in 2015 for 3 million dollars plus a 3 million dollar penalty and future IFA penalties for going over the cap and then had to clear a dispute over another agent signing him to the Giants for $2.5M.
Martinez never dominated at any level. Martinez leaves without advancing past AA. Just your run of the mill $6M effort by our "cheapskate" organization.
