Joe Kelly buzzed a 3-0 97mph fastball over and behind Bregman's head. Then a couple batters later threw a curveball over Correa's head and ended up striking him out and as he walked off the mound they were chirping at each other and Kelly made a face like a haha sticking his tongue out and then stuck his lower lip out like a baby gesture and then benches emptied but no shoving or punches.
Now I am all for teams targeting the Astroles and I cant stand Bregman's smugness. but you dont throw 97 behind a guys head. And another thought it kind of pisses me off Houston wont have to deal with fans razzing them on the road this season.

If he had lunged back it really could have hit him near the head area although it was around the shoulder if he wasn't crouching like one does when trying to move out of the way. Correa's does't bother me because it was a curve & if it would have hit him it would have been below his shoulder. I wish the Astro's did have to face the music from fans this year as well but this won't be the last time teams go after them so they won't be having all that much fun & I'm perfectly ok with that.

It was a curve to Correa, but it wasnt exactly a slow one so I have mixed feelings about that.
If you want to send a message do it the way Zambrano used to. As bat shit crazy as he was at least Z would not throw up high. He would give baseball tattoos in the thigh or back.

As pissed as I am at the Astros I do not want anyone to get hurt & honestly I very much doubt that any pitcher wants to hurt one of their guys badly either..

According to Dusty, as Kelly walked off the field he told Correa, Nice swing bitch. Final straw that set everyone going We are going to see a lot of this

Astros 100% deserve it , but not near the head.
DeRosa was talking about it on MLB network this morning that others at this point are more pissed about the smugness in the way they reacted and handled it than the actual cheating.

Plunk all the Astros hitters all you want, they deserve it but getting close to the head like that is unacceptable.

Haha this is great (except for the at the head stuff)......he should have aimed lower but still good stuff. Astros deserve it.
Seems Joe Kelly has been involved in this kind of stuff before. I recall he ended up with his shirt partially removed from a brawl, I believe when he pitched for a Red Sox.

I agree with the rest of the board, you do not throw at someones head but if you are going to throw at someones head, let it be Bregman.

If the league refuses to punish them, the players should punish them. Getting beaned isn't nearly as bad as losing a world series trophy.
It's bs that they're able to hide from the reactions of fans in the seats this year. They deserve boos and beanballs, all day long. If they don't like it, they can always retire from the game- after all, they played a very active part in cheating for an entire season or more and probably shouldn't be wearing uniforms at all. Tough titties, Stros.

I have no problem with hurting them even though that is a bit extreme they deserve what comes to them. If you want to go beyond sending just a message and hurt them then throw in on the hands. You don't throw near the head at 97 that could kill.

If someone gets beaned and seriously injured, I don't think it should all go on that pitcher- I see it as MLB's fault for forcing the hand of the players. They HAVE to punish those cheaters- what they did was a really big deal and they got off scott free.

There is nothing worse than a fake tough pitcher who gets to throw at someone's head with absolutely no possibility of natural consequences for the their cowardly actions.

That is something you take up with MLB and the union, if a pitcher throws intentionally at a hitter head regardless how big of a douche bag or cheater the hitters might be is wrong, there is zero excuse for it and 100% on the pitcher. I hate the Astros like everybody else, but this is just a baseball game at the end of the day.

Tough titties, Stros. I think it's much less about the World Series trophy. Just think of the young pitchers that came up with teams through the years & faced the Cheating Astros & just teed off on the guy & was probably sent down immediately with his confidence crushed. It may well have cost a few pitchers their career.. The league didn't refuse to punish them at all. They started the investigation & ZERO players from the Astros would say anything at all so the Players Union got more involved & brokered a deal that no players would be fined or suspended if they started talking & that was the only way they were able to get the complete story. It sucks but it is better that everyone know what transpired in that investigation so that it NEVER is allowed to happen again.

There isn't anything "fake tough" about Joe Kelly. Joe Kelly will fight anyone, just ask Tyler Austin. With that said, after watching the video, I don't think Kelly threw at Bregman's head, it looked worse than what it was because it Bregman ducked. It looked more like Kelly was going to light up his rib cage (like he did with Austin) and it got away from him. Joe Kelly has his own way of policing the league. He isn't shy by any means throwing at a player, Tyler Austin slide dirty into second base, spiking the Red Sox short stop. Bregman and Correa both ran their mouths off about the cheating scandal. If the league wasn't going to punish the players, then JK will do it for them and I really do not have a problem with it. At least with Kelly, he goes after the player(s) responsible and not the opposing teams best player.

The problem with the pitch is if the player (really doesn't matter who) has a reation & crouches down & jumps back he puts his head right there. Then you have a Tony Conigliaro situation or worse, somebody dies.. In the end what they did in the GAME was horribly wrong but it is still just a game & nobody deserves to die in a game.

Bryzo , Right, its on the league for not doing more about it. And I have no problem at all with players doing what they feel they need to do to send a message and throwing at or hitting batters is fine for these circumstances. But sorry man, a World series trophy and ring is not worth a life. When you hit a guy 97 in the head, that could end a career or life. If Bregman moved backwards instead of the way he did it could have been ugly. and remember the hitter has a fraction of a second to react so he could have easily done that. Yes their cheating ended some careers and thats unfortunate but under no circumstances do you throw near the head.

I agree, if you are going to hit someone, make sure you can control where you hit them. I felt like Kelly's pitch seemed to get away and rise on him in Bregmans case. Bregman was ducking as well which made it look like it was inline with his melon when, with the rise, it was located more upper tricep/shoulder area, of course, when a ball is throw 97 MPH and it's rising the point is moot. As I said, Kelly has a history of throwing at guys, but that history does not include throwing at their heads and I do firmly believe that he did not intentionally throw at Bregman's head. I do think he took advantage of the Bregman mistake to drop a 10/6 in Correa's general direction.
