This is ridiculous. I posted this over the winter.
This guy deserves some regular ABs.

With a 60 game season, you go with the hot hand. Bryant's been slumping and is a little banged up and Bote's hitting the ball well.

This is ridiculous. I posted this over the winter. This guy deserves some regular ABs. Because Nico gives this line up something it desperately needs, contact. I like Bote but he is a watered down version of what every other player on this team has been for the past couple years. A guy with a lot of power with a lot of swing and miss and a low batting average. The most exciting thing I saw last night was Kipnis making a productive out, moving two players into scoring position and Hoerner hitting a sacrifice fly. Far too often in the past couple years we would get a runner to third only to see a couple K's and easy ground or fly out. Watching the bottom of the line up this year hitting singles, moving the line, has been a thing of beauty. Bote is still going to get his at bats when the match ups favor him and the situation dictates.

Well said. Nico needs to be in the line up as much as possible. I have nothing against Bote, I like him a lot but the line up needed a contact hitter ever since it lost Zo. Bote I feel is better in smaller doses but if he is hot having a DH is a way Ross can keep him in there with occasional position starts. And solid point about Kipnis , another element lost since Zo, a guy who thinks situational hitting up there not afraid to make an out if its productive.

No he doesnt, whenever he gets extended time he gets over exposed and starts to suck Going back through Bote's game logs in 18 & 19 that really isn't true although he is very streaky. The simple fact is that there really isn't anywhere on the field for him to play consistently so there isn't much that can be done about it. The fact remains that he has a WAR of 3.2 in 495 AB's in 1/2 of 2018 & all of 2019 & is a decent fielder as well so he has very good value for what he makes.

Agreed but Ross started Bote again last night because Bryant's elbow was bothering him.

You don't have the luxury of an extended period of time this year. They do have the DH and the luxury that Bryant can play multiple positions. A player having a hot or cold month equates to half a season this year. Through out baseball history, players have had extended streaks both hot and cold. this season they will be magnified.

Sitting one of the best hitters on your team because he struggled in only 4 games into the season (still getting on base) is a terrible idea and will only keep him struggling since he cannot get live AB's to get his timing down which is the issue right now. If Ross benched Baez after the first 4 games when he struggled, then last night would of not happened and there is a good chance the Cubs are 3-2 instead of 4-1.

Nobody "sat" Bryant other than Bryant. His elbow was sore. He is in the line up tonite.

The thing is, a player in Bryant's caliber can break out anytime and give you massive return. Look at Javy last night. These players can easily give you 3/5 with 2 home runs and 3 RBIs in a game. KB, Javy, Rizzo, etc. are the core players of the team. You live and die with them. Unless they are hurt, you don't sit them, particularly for a short season. The way to mitigate the risk is to have as many of them as possible and the hope is when some of them slump, the others would be hot. You rarely see all of the players hot at the same time.

Either Bryant or Bote could DH or Bryant could move to RF because Heyward isn't hitting much either. You can't compare what a player does over the course of a 162 game season as to now.

Bote has more Hits, HRs and RBIs than Bryant and Heyward combined and yet he's the one that should be sitting? You mentioned a player's caliber but who among us isn't scared shitless when Kimbrel tries to close out a game? Bote' hitting so you ride him till he cools off.

You all can argue who you would sit or not until you turn blue. No offense. but it doesn't mean shit.
It is what Ross does that matters and very small sample size to judge so far but he is showing if they are hitting he will try to keep that guy in there and I believe he has sad that is what he will try to do. But a guy like KB is not going to sit when healthy no matter how hot Bote gets.

I don’t mind Bote getting more ABs, while he is hot, but you don’t do it at the expense of sitting Bryant.
