Unless I missed it Folty has not been released. he was DFA'D which means you would have to trade for him and pay his contract and the Cubs probably are not that desperate but some team will be. If he gets released then signing him for league minimum he might be worth the gamble to them.

If he gets released then signing him for league minimum he might be worth the gamble to them. His velocity is down to about 90-92mph, when he was good he sat 96-98. If he is traded, I think he goes to a team with money to burn so I agree, probably not to the Cubs.

Another reclamation project with Foltynewicz? It wouldn't be the 1st time Epstein tried this but the results haven't been that good.

Newsflash for you thisbuds. Every GM in the game has signed reclamation projects , its just not the Cubs. And that is pretty much all that will be available right now but I see no chance he ends up with them anyway.

But the fact is, Theo has spent a lot of money on pitchers with question marks concerning the productivity and health. Morrow and Smiley are just 2 that come to mind. Darvish and Kimbrel, while still with the team, haven't lived up to there contracts also. When the Cubs had payroll flexibility, it may have been worth the risk nut not now. With the bullpen under-performing, I'm hoping Maples gets an opportunity. While some pitchers want or need the fans, Maples might benefit from having no fans in the stands. It might take some of the pressure off of him.

Agree , its pretty much Maples chance to prove himself now. I hope he gets the chance. He still needs work but I think as soon as he can get some confidence on the major league level he has a chance to blossom.

A nice article on BleacherreportCubs regarding Kimbrel & Hotovoy says he's a bit encouraged with the changes he has implemented. That's makes at least 1 of us.. Hopefully he is right.

Well I said yesterday I hope Maples gets a chance to prove himself .... SMH.
starting to be convinced he is one of those AAAA pitchers who will bounce around and in about 5 years all of a sudden figure it out and be lights out.

I'm hoping we get to see Alzolay & Abbott sooner rather than later. And maybe Jensen/Carraway late in Sep.

Well if these guys keep pitching like shit we are going to see other arms. Dont worry about starting any clocks since there is no minor league season let them learn on the major league level now. I cant imagine them being any worse. The only thing is you dont want to hurt their confidence.

Changed the title to make it reflective of the entire season's ups & downs. Regarding Kimbrel, I checked Spotrac and really the hit this year is 5.9M pro-rated over 60 games. Next year if he bombs you just move him down to spot reliever even at a cost of 16M. In 2022 you definitely buy him out at 1M. Early days but those are basically the options other than DFA him this off season which I don't see Theo doing. He could turn it around. Doubt it but could.

Like Ross said, they need him and he has to try to pitch him out of this.
As horrible as he has been he is still one of the GOAT and you can't give up on him yet. I would be more worried if velocity was way down but it really is not so hopefully they figure this out and soon.

He is either tipping pitches or not hiding the ball the way he use to. Every hitter is taking the curve and crushing the fastball, they know whats coming

Similar to towards the end of Kerry Wood when he was throwing 97-98 but straight & getting rocked hard.

The 2 hits he gave up, both batters took all the curve balls and smoked a fastball for a single and then a double. These batters are picking up on something. They know a curve ball is coming and they're sitting on it.

Even Grace made a comment on how good his stuff looked He looked good last night, but from what I saw he was focusing on throwing strikes and making guys hit him. The pitch to Mondesi was about center cut and belt high. Guys are hitting that nowadays, it needs to be on something of an edge. The slider looked good but from what I remember guys weren't swinging at it, they were sitting on the fastball. He might need to force them to hit the slider to respect the fastball a bit.

And before you ask, I watched that terrible Yahoo MLB thingy on my phone and they won 2 in a row so of course being horribly superstitious I will continue to watch on that POS..
