one double D replaces another double D. Maybe the idea is to cut Descalso and let Dietrich be the insurance guy.

Minor League contract assigned to South Bend Very streaky hitter so if he gets hot he can really help out. Our offense can’t afford to slump for a week this year..

I love it. I mentioned the Cubs should sign him as soon as he was granted his release from the Reds. He seems like he is a tool at times, but he may be one of those guys you hate as an opponent but love on your team.

I don't mind adding him to the South Bend pool, I just don't like his attitude last year. And I also don't get why he'd ask to be released from the Reds, who will be legit this season.

I liked him with the Marlins, always seemed to give 110%. He seemed like a prick with the Reds admiring his home runs but I also hated Edmonds before he became a Cub. I just think he adds a lot off the bench and could give the team a bit of an edge which might not be a bad thing. I like Kipnis , but I think he has more to offer than Kipnis. He is a good option to have around. He wasnt going to get the playing time he wanted with the Reds, but Im not sure he will here either. Nothing to lose with this signing. Even though his avg last season was brutal he still mashed righties with an OPS over .800 and hit 19 bombs in a little over 300 at bats

Definitely nothing to lose, especially if Kipnis doesn't pan out.

Hopefully you get a Jim Edmounds 2.0, a player you cannot stand until he joins your team and hits a couple bombs and all the sudden you are a fan.

INF Derek Dietrich and OF Ryan LaMarre have both signed minor-league contracts with the Cubs and will report to South Bend. This year's second-round pick, LHP Burl Carraway, also added to 60-man and will be with South Bend group. Total pool at 57, 26 in South Bend.

Looked up LaMarre numbers, and if he plays in the the Majors this season for the Cubs, then the Cubs are having a very rough season, the guy puts up 2019 Descalso production for a living. lol

I just hope he does't catch on a team that plays us because he can at time hurt us..

I really didn't understand the signing at the time because he doesn't have success against lefties and that is really what the team needs. It was just a minor league depth deal so ultimately there was no harm in signing him but still. I'm surprised the Marlins or Cardinals didn't pick him up.

Signs with the Rangers...
for now To a Rangers minor league contract. He supposedly wanted a release from a Cubs minor league contract to pursue a major league deal. What was that actually about? Dietrich - ESPN
