Pennies on the dollar was in reference to returns for trading players to dump payroll. Per Buster Olney, it's a reality and the Cubs today aren't going to get anything close to what they could have gotten for Bryant in December as an example. Not even close to getting what they could of got and will likely not be able to trade him at all. a Ton of teams will be looking to unload big contract players any way they can too. Cubs mind as well keep him and take the comp pick now, but you know the Rickets are going to demand to slash payroll at all cost. Agreed 100%

I listened to Olney podcast, and he said that MLB, Owners, players, the union and Boras are already screwed this up badly. Bringing their issues public was the worst possible thing they can do and need to all shut up and take it private and work it out as the fans don't care about billionaires and millionaires problems right now.

I'm not buying into Manfred and the owners pleading "poverty". Manfred has one job and that is to maximize profits for the owners. I would expect nothing lees from him as he tries to sell the economic disaster of ML baseball. It's a public relations move to make the players look greedy if they don't give in to these concessions.

Absolutely.... these owners have been making millions of dollars for decades and will continue to make millions of dollars for decades going forward. In no scenario will I ever side with owners, ever.

Per Ian Happ on ESPN 1000 right now, MLB owners did agree to paying players their prorated contracts back in March if baseball were t resume in 2020 at some point. MLB owners now do not want to pay players prorated contracts.
The issue is, in the agreement from March it says as long as players don't sue for the full dollars they'll get prorated dollars if baseball is played in 2020, that the wording of "fans or no fans" is rumored to NOT be in the agreement and owners are using that loophole to try and change the way players will get paid.
Owners being owners SMH

Owners being owners SMH The owners would never bring labor negotiations public in an attempt to make the players union look like the greedy bad guys like this. Totally not like them at all!! lol! Also, if the season does get going, Ian Happ is going to breakout into a star, he had that feel in spring training.

4 weeks old but at least the NBA/NBPA had agreed on a framework for 25% paycuts to start.

4 weeks old but at least the NBA/NBPA had agreed on a framework for 25% paycuts to start. MLB kind of did the same thing in March. Owners gave teams 175 million dollars as a front towards player salaries. If baseball never resumes the players keep that money and cannot sue for the full balance, players and owners both agreed on that, which is fair. Also, players and owners agreed if baseball did resume, players would get prorated dollars based on games played... so, if 120 games players would get 75% of their salaries. If 82 games, players would get 50% of their salaries, and that 175 million front would go toward that salaries. It wouldn't be "extra money". Both players and owners agreed to this back in March. Fast forward to TODAY..... Owners found a loophole in the wording of the agreement and are not wanting to pay the prorated salaries, instead, they want to give players a 50/50 split on revenue sharing. Well, yeah, duh, that's going to be a LOT less than paying 50% of salaries. Basically the owners are saying circumstances have changed since that agreement and they won't be able to afford those salaries.

They constantly blackball the players but now trying to weasel out of an agreed upon framework is very risky. It will alienate fans who are struggling to make ends meet.

This is just such a bad look for MLB with a pandemic going on.

This is just such a bad look for MLB with a pandemic going on. Yep! Really bad move to make this public, both sides especially the owners need to get their crap together, I mean they cannot even agree what they agreed to back in March. WTF! They had a chance to do something special and actually gain fans which they really need but are blowing it big time.

So reports of the zoom call yesterday with MLB and MLBPA sounds positive. Financials were NOT discussed. My guess is, it was all about health and safety.
DH was unanimously approved.

I am pretty sure they discussed the financial part, but actually being smart and not making it public. Union is already getting heat for this even though the owners kind of thew then under the bus. Safety is probaly the #1 concern though.

True, but they should fight behind close doors. They both have valid disputes but it is more of a PR thing.

With the DH approved universally and roster likely expanded, do you think the Cubs make a roster move on a free agent?
Liiiiiiiiikeeeeeeee...... saaaaaaaaaayyyyyy..... Puig on the cheap? LOL

LOL Puig is instantly going to be suspended to violating whatever rules MLB adds to keep players safe. Can he go even a half season not licking bats, hugging coaches and fighting players? I highly doubt it. lol Anyhow, I see Willy/Schwarber getting the big bulk of the DH duties which will allow Caratini/Souza to get more AB's. Man, Castellanos would look really good right about now, because the I believe the DH is here to stay for good, Reds are looking even better here. ugh...

LOL My guess based on all the offseason rhetoric thus far and prior to all this Covid mess is the front office would say they already have the perfect DH in Schwarber as it is and would open up more playing time for Souza, Almora and Happ. Edit: forgot all about Willy and Caratini, even more bats available. Would be a way to fill that hole (perhaps with a good fit) while not saying they're trying to avoid spending more money.
Man, I just don't know about Puig. I wouldn't hate him on the cheap, but there's just something about him I've never liked. Perhaps given The Last Dance talk maybe he could be like Rodman, an idiot but our idiot seeing as how his teammates previously have spoken highly of him. However, I don't think he'll be available on the cheap; I think his stock just went from ice cold to red hot. 15 NL teams just got a new opening in their lineup, some might have a suitable DH on their roster but some of the contenders will want to seize the opportunity. It's just a matter of whether owners that are currently talking about tight money want to getting into a bidding war and pay up for him. Seeing as how it might just be a 1 year deal due to uncertainty of the DH moving forward, he might just have his pick of where he wants to go. My guess is he'd go back to LA as they know him and are ready for a run right now.

Did COVID-19 basically extend Theo Epstein with the Cubs? Kap suggested that the COVID-19 pandemic created a new challenge for Theo in wanting to build the Cubs post-COVID-19? Thoughts? Also, since it looks like 50% of payrolls will likely be PAID.... does that mean every single team will be under the tax threshold in 2020?
