off Topic: but ESPN is releasing the Sosa And McGwire doc on June 14th as part of the 30 for 30 series. I cannot wait! I was at the game when McGwire hit #62 at Busch. It was quite the scene. Some guy tried to get me to sell my ticket stub to him, in hindsight I should have. It was so crowded that night that when I finally got in the gate, all the score cards and programs were gone. I did save the ticket though, even though it’s not worth anything.

According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, "no plan is close to firm" as far as when the 2020 baseball season will begin and what it will look like. Former major leaguer Trevor Plouffe tweeted Monday, citing multiple sources, that he had heard spring training would resume on June 10 and that games would get underway on July 1, with all teams playing at their home ballparks. Rosenthal confirms that at least one team -- the Indians -- has instructed its players to use those dates as potential targets, but for now they are just that: targets. "There is no plan, can be no plan, until Major League Baseball gains a clearer perspective on which states are containing COVID-19 well enough for games to be played safely in their most stripped-down form, without fans," writes Rosenthal.
This is off Rotoworld, so Plouffe info is maybe from some insiders who were informed that those are the target dates to plan for, but MLB needs the health officials and states to get on board which sounds like it has not happened it or close to happening.

I don't think we can know how close it is to happening. Tony Clark said yesterday that the players have received no proposals from MLB. If that its true, it is likely there won't be a proposal until they've figured of the details of how it all would work.

Ken Rosenthal is now backing Plouffe's tweets and podcast now, MLB is working on a proposal to start the season and should be given to the players union within a week.

Joel Sherman is reporting that MLB is trying to get a proposal ready to the players union about salaries and etc. by next week and even by this weekend. It is fully expected that the Union will decline instantly, but the goal is to get the ball rolling and lay the groundwork to work out a deal.
June 10th Spring training II and start of the season July 1st opening day is the goal, BUT it is considered best case at this point and need the cities and states on board which obviously will not know for a while, but they want to be ready to instantly go, once or if the greenlight is given.
So pretty much it all back Trevor Plouffe's news.

Multiple Sources:
July 2nd Start Cubs vs. Cards Most likely at St Louis
80 or 82 game season July 2nd thru September 27th 7 teams from each league makes playoff. First round best of 3 other rounds best of 7.

40-50 man rosters.
Top 30-40 recruits report to spring training.
Double and Triple headers.
Non activated players sit in stands waiting for game they play in.
Six to Nine freaking hours a day of Cubs games.
Oh baby!!!!!

Guy from work kid went to hitting practice and his hitting coach works with some MLB players. The MLB players were told to start preparing. Couple weeks of spring training and then probably 50 man squad. Since no fans the non-active sit in stands for the games.

I was thinking about this, The triple header idea could happen, but I wonder if it will happen like AA games will start first, with AAA games mid day and finally MLB games on prime time, all the games played at the ballpark on obviously on the same day. Thanks for sharing, Trevor Pouloff was told by sources which most are players to start preparing as well. so this makes sense.

First round best of 3 other rounds best of 7. Only play Central Division teams and AL Central. Players still need to agree to salary concessions. Of course they do. The total media money made by all teams falls way short of being able to meet the regular payroll. Even most major market teams would be running net losses and then there would be no revenue sharing for the smaller market teams. It can't work without salary concession. The players union has to know this. They know how much media revenue there is and how much normal stadium revenues are. The Cubs media money is less than half of their payroll. The notion that the owners can run the season at huge losses is silly. Most owners are able to buy teams because they made money with their other businesses first. They may be rich but they can take money from their other businesses to pay their players. That money is needed to run that business and pay the employees of that business. To complicate matters virtually all of those businesses are suffering because of the economic downturn from the pandemic.

I do see a situation where the minor league teams are all playing a Cactus League and Grapefruit League schedule and each level play each day. The travel expenses would be much smaller especially in AZ where they would just load up more buses to play road games. In Florida the travel would also be less than in a regular minor league season. The longest bus trip would be about 3 hours and most would be much shorter. In AZ they could play two games starting in early morning and and late evening to stay out of the heat. If each level plays at a regular start time, the players would adjust. If media (MiLB.TV) coverage is deemed not that important then four levels could play at once with several on side practice fields.
