Bryant was texting Ross over the winter and said ‘thanks coach.’ Ross said ‘don’t ever call me coach again.’
lol.

Bryant doesn’t seem. Happy about the trade talk, at least that’s what I gathered. Says he would like team to keep him in the loop, understands they don’t have to, but would hope they respect him enough to do so.
Also, KB super harsh on the Astros. Called the cheating a disgrace to the game. Punishment should have been way harsher.

I totally agree about the Astros. It was like a slap on the wrist. I personally can’t wait to hear road reactions to them. Too bad they probably won’t care.

Jesse Rogers @espnchicubs 2h Bryant shoots down any report at anytime that he was offered a mega $200 million-plus contract offer from the Cubs. Steadfast. Again sounds like KB more upset with shoddy reporting than anything.

Hahahaha
David Ross on seeing Kris Bryant today:
"When you see the All-Stars walk in the room, especially when they're like 6-6 with beautiful blue eyes, it makes you smile. And the great haircut that he has. I was telling him, too, he's got a tan this year."

If only he had emphatically shot it down, back then... Might not have had so much discussion for him to be peeved about.

They get together, exchange numbers, do a lot of negotiating... then the team makes a formal offer if the sides are close enough. If they aren't, and there is no hope for agreement, both sides just drop the negotiations and claim no offer was made. This seems to happen all the time. Essentially it's a way for teams to deny that they lost out on bidding for a particular player.

Not to call you out, but I’m curious how you have this information.

Baez on last year: “It wasn’t something bad but we have a lot of optional things. Not mandatory. Everyone kind of sat back on that, including me. I wasn’t really going out there and preparing for the game. I was getting ready during the game, which is not good.”
Javier Baez: “A lot of players were doing the same as me, getting loose during the game. You can lose the game in the first inning. Sometimes when you’re not ready, and the other team scored on something simple, I feel like it was because of that. We weren’t ready.”
Javy Baez crystallized some issues with game prep in recent years: Says he and others would get “loose” in game instead of before. He took advantage of optional work. He promised that would change.
bingo. just like its been talked about on here. lot of times it showed on the field.

He's not sure if he'll get something by opening day or not.

So many of us could see that the intensity and the readiness just wasn't there and this started showing up right away in 2017. Kudos to Baez for owning up to this. It is also good to see him talking about player responsibility to the game instead of contracts and other distractions. Need more of this. This is what Joe didn't understand or chose to ignore, the human nature part of the game. Sometimes you just can't sit around and wait for "talent" to take over. Everyone has talent at this level.

This is aggravating because this was alluded to post 2018 in the "October starts in March" talk. Just fell on deaf ears.

Ross is not gonna put up with this . I believe gonna see a more focused team. they gonna play hard like saw in 2016. Ross is gonna hold players accountable and he wants players to hold him accountable. how many times in game threads people said they just going through the motions of the game or lack of focused? a lot that I remember. Ross called the stuff in here from Baez a “powerful message” yeah it is powerful message.

I just hate that they pretty much wasted 2019, but I do understand they had to give Joe the opportunity to correct this. Baez stepping up and showing the vocal leadership. Now he needs to put his actions behind it.

I really do believe Ross was missing voice Cubs needed. after 2016, I was hoping he want be a bench coach, but respected that he wanted time away from baseball. now that voice is back in dugout as a manager.
