Who are everyone's Top 5 favorite Cubs prospects they are watching?
Mine are (in no order): Happ, Ryan Williams, Eloy Jimenez, Albert Almora, and Cease.
Williams and Almora aren't exactly the "sexy" prospects (Almora once was, but not anymore), but I think they are the types of players that can really help a team win ballgames. I love Happ's versatility and his hit tool seems to be just amazing. And Jimenez and Cease can be such boom or bust prospects their progression seems to really interest me.
Love to hear everyone else's thoughts.

I usually follow the less hyped players. The Steve Clevenger, Justin Bour types. My guy lately has been Chesny Young. I've been real busy the last couple of years, and haven't been able to follow the minors like I used too. I'll expand my list later.

He played in the Northwoods League near my home town so I saw him play before I knew who he was. Makes me root for the kid. I also hope Pierce Johnson does well. I saw him pitch when Peoria was our low A team and they played in Cedar Rapids. He just seemed to carry himself like a pro.

My top 5 favorites that I'd like to see make it are mainly because of their stories, not just because of talent level and hype etc. They would be Edwards , Almora, Cease , Williams, Vogelbach Now if Ii had to pick a top 5 on who I think could have the biggest impact on the team that I'm excited to follow the progress on either helping it, or what they would get in return in a trade for Torres, Contreras, Candelario, Cease , Jiminez

I've been following the minors through skokiejoes minor league thread mostly. So anyway, my 5, also in no order; Chesny Young. This guy is a hit machine so far. Billy McKinney. I love left handed hitters in a lineup. Jeimer Candelario and Ian Happ. The only thing I like more than a good lefty in the lineup is a good switch hitter. Bryon Hudson. Just drafted last year in 3rd round. Again with the lefty thing. It's always seemed to me that guys who bat from the wrong side of the plate or throw with the wrong arm can cause opposing teams problems some times.

I'm going to pay attention to Contreras because his ability to throw out runners is phenomenal. I'm really hoping he can polish up some of the other catching skills this year. Pierce Johnson keeps looking like a bust to me, so I'll see if he can actually learn some skills to go with that big arm of his. CJ Edwards is a guy I've always been rooting for. The whole skinny kid without enough weight can't pitch thing is annoying. I think this year he makes some of those doubters sick by succeeding. One guy that doesn't seem to get any notice is Eloy Jiminez. I think he might be something really good one of these days.

If I were looking at pitchers, I would mention Johnson and Cease.

Put me down as being an big upside MiLB guy. The prospect I least like to see the Cubs trade is the player with the potential to come back and haunt you, if he does manage to attain his ceiling. With that said, my top 5 to watch:
1. Cease 2. De La Cruz 3. Martinez 4. Hudson 5. Jimenez
PS, that's not to say I don't value or won't be interested in how guys like Contreras, Torres, Happ, Almoras, ect. preform this year. It's simply that I've got a far better idea of who they are and where their floors and ceilings are. If the 5 I mentioned have promising seasons, this system is once more among the top in the league. And they could sure use a SP prospect with genuine TOR stuff to hit the scene.

This is not exactly my top 5, but probably the top 5 I'll be following the closest.
De la Rosa - if he' not already on your map, get him there. Our current top pitching prospect IMO. Jimenez - A stauesque ball player. Really stands out on the field. Huge BP power. Some day will likely convert it to in game power. When he does, watch out. Almora - I've been "hard" on him before because I don't see him as a star. I think he'll be a very good defender (obviously) and will hit for decent average. However, I, to this point, don't believe he'll get on base all that well, and won't hit for much power. A bottom third of the order type hitter. However, he started to show some patience and if that continues over I'll start getting more excited about him. Plus, a great defender who can make decent contact and bat in the bottom third of the order is certainly valuable. Happ - can he play 2b? How big of a problem are his swing and miss tendencies? Candelario - this was a guy that scouts always raved about, but it never seemed to come through in the numbers. Obviously that has changed over the last 12 months. Will it carry over? Will he make an impact on the MLB team this year?
And honorable mention - John Andreoli. I've always liked his game. Scouts don't for whatever reason. Sczcur might be finding his way off the team if he has to clear waivers. Andreoli might find himself on the Iowa/Chicago shuttle.

Jake Stinnett. I'm not completely sure why, but I'm very interested in his development. Probably because he's got a TOR arm but hasn't been pitching for long and needs to learn how to pitch effectively to maximize his potential. Hoping for big things from him in 2016.

Oh, and also Eddy Julio! Not sure how I forgot about him. I might have my eye tuned to him the most. Can't wait to see what he looks like as a pro baseball player.

I like Happ, but I'm really pulling for Almora to reach his potential and be the 2017 everyday CF that we all thought he could be. Here are how some young prospects have performed in AA Tennessee at a young age 2013 Baez age 20 OPS .983 2013 Alcantara age 21 OPS .804 (could not hit MLB pitching) 2013 Szczur age 23 OPS .717 2014 Soler age 22 OPS 1.355 2014 Bryant age 22 OPS 1.160 2014 Russell age 20 OPS .868 2014 Almora age 19 OPS .605 2015 Schwarber age 22 OPS 1.017 2015 Contreras age 23 OPS .891 2015 Candelario age 21 OPS .841 2015 Vogelbach age 22 OPS .828 2015 Almora age 20 OPS .727 He's not fast enough for his defense alone to carry him, and tops out as a light-hitting fifth outfielder. Think Szczur.
