I'm not a big fan of the All Star game, anymore. I used to love it, looked forward to it, and it seemed to mean something, especially between the leagues. Now it seems much ado about nothing. Inter league play has removed the NL vs AL rivalry pride aspect. The only thing it's good for is three days of rest in the middleish of the long season. The players who go lose that rest, and I often wonder if it affects them down the stretch. I would rather the Cubs make the playoffs than have guys make the All Star game.
EDIT** Not trying to be a Debby Downer. Just stating where the game is for me and my evolvement as a fan over the years.

I haven't watched more than a couple innings of the all-star game in years. And the last time I watched the HR derby was when Schwarber and Harper were in the finals, and I only watched the last round because I switched the channel out of curiosity and saw Schwarbs in it. To me all-star week is an unwanted break from real baseball.

It's kind of a double edged sword because yes, the AL vs NL luster is gone, but I'm more of a fan of the Cubs playing teams like the Yankees, Angels, etc. I value that more than the all star game, but that's just my opinion.
Think about this Babe Ruth had over 10,000 plate appearances. Only 7 of those were at Cubs Park (before the name change). Mickey Mantle, Ted Williams, Reggie Jackson, Cal Ripken Jr, just to name a few never played at Wrigley Field. Trout has played for 13 MLB seasons and only 5 games at Wrigley. Ohtani has never played at Wrigley, that will change but thanks to inter league play if he stays in the AL. For me, personally, I want to see the best players in baseball play more than 0-5 games at Wrigley over their careers if they're an AL player.

Back in the day, we were familiar with the players on all the NL teams and very few of the AL players. For the day of the All Star Game, we rooted for our otherwise NL enemies, rather than the unfamiliar AL stars. Now MLB is de facto a single league, and we know most of the players. That makes it very hard to root for or against players on either side unless they are Cubs. So, ASG disinterest is unsurprising.

But it only happens every 4 years and is done during spring training.
I've often wondered if you could mix elements of the WBC into an All-Star week or X number of days tournaments.
How many countries could the MLB realistically represent in a true all-star format?
Could you do a bracket tournament with these country teams. You could limit the games to 5 innings in order to work more games in a day.
I've never been able to really work out all of the details, but something like that I think makes more sense (at least for me) than the current iteration of the All-Star game.

That sounds very complicated and tedious. I quit watching while Chris Berman was still calling the HR Derby. Keep it simple - one day, one game, 9 innings and no ghost runner crap. Just ONCE a year shouldn't hurt.

I don't care too much at all about the AS game but I'm pretty sick & tired of the AL winning every year of late so Go NL!!

I think this is the first season that I didn't atleast check in on the HR derby and I'm probably taking a pass on the game as well.

It’s a good chance for us as fans to step back and recharge as well! I don’t give two flips about these festivities but I am glad for the break, both for us and the players to rest up.

Guessing the NL finds a way to lose for the 40 billionth time in a row tonight. Hope that won't be the case.

Apparently Luis Robert may have tweaked something during the derby and it was bad enough that he had an MRI done today.

Braves and Cubs are under consideration for upcoming All-Star Games. Rangers hosting 2024 all star game and Phillies hosting 2026 all star game.

They are just saying the Cubs are in consideration to shut us up, we all know they already decided on Atlanta due to the issue in 2021.

Anyone else prefer when the players wore their team uniforms?
